About us
What if your work could drive change in a globally established industry, shaping processes that touch every corner of the world? At Forto, we are at the forefront of change, harnessing the power of AI to revolutionise logistics. We want to reinvent digital supply chains to be transparent, frictionless and sustainable. From day one, our mission has been to simplify global trade – creating a seamless and efficient logistics process.
About the role
As the Engineering Manager (f/m/d) for the Master Data Team, you’ll be at the heart of Forto’s data integrity. This means you’ll lead the development and maintenance of core functionality for managing, sanitizing, and deduplicating critical business data such as account information, legal entities (Customer, Shipper, Consignees), and shipment locations (picking and delivery addresses). Beyond internal data management, you’ll oversee building the essential infrastructure to synchronize this master data with external platforms, ensuring data consistency across our entire ecosystem.
Ultimately, you’ll be accountable for the technical vision and direction of the team. You’ll partner with your product and design counterparts to set the strategic direction the team follows, driving the delivery of their roadmap. You’ll also be responsible for building, growing, and managing a group of talented engineers who report to you. Additionally, you’ll collaborate with other engineering leads in the organization, helping to implement broader and impactful projects. We’re looking for a versatile and motivated individual with a strong engineering background and demonstrated leadership skills, someone who can deftly balance people management, roadmap delivery, and software architecture.
Key Responsibilities
-
People management: Build a highly motivated and engaged cross-functional team. You’ll manage 4+ engineers, assess and review their performance, coaching and mentoring them when needed. You’ll help to create an environment that privileges autonomy, collaboration, and ownership.
-
Roadmap delivery: Be ultimately responsible for delivering the team’s roadmap, in collaboration with your product and design partners. You’ll proactively communicate priorities, development status, and any team challenges to your customers, stakeholders, and management.
-
Software architecture: Oversee the entire technical landscape of your team, being responsible for prioritizing initiatives that evolve it, together with Staff engineers, focusing on technical excellence. You’ll guide the team on how to design the best technical solutions for the product challenges the team is up to solve, especially regarding data integrity, synchronization, and scalability. Lastly, you’ll guide the quality and testing strategy of your team.
Required Skills and Experience
-
Increasing seniority in deeply technical engineering roles, with at least 2 years in a people leadership/managerial role.
-
Experience with large-scale architectural patterns, event-driven microservices, well-designed APIs, and efficient algorithms, especially in a data-centric environment.
-
Strong exposure to Agile methodologies.
-
Strong skills with some of the technologies we use: NodeJS, Javascript/Typescript, MongoDB, message queuing systems, Kubernetes/Docker, AWS/GCP.
-
Strong relationship builder and cross-team collaborator.
-
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Preferred Skills and Experience
-
Experience in developing software for B2B businesses, particularly those with complex data integration needs.
-
Start-up experience.
-
Familiarity with CRM (e.g., Salesforce) and ERP (e.g., Business Central) system integrations.
-
Proven experience with data management, data sanitization, deduplication, and data synchronization processes.
