About the role

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a key role in building, maintaining, and scaling Forto’s modern cloud-based data infrastructure. You’ll support and empower stakeholders across the company as we advance toward globally scaled, highly automated, and data-driven operations.

Our current data stack includes:

  • BigQuery for data warehousing

  • Google Cloud Pub/Sub for ingestion

  • dbt for data transformation

  • Apache Airflow (on Composer) for orchestration

  • Python for scripting

  • Monte Carlo and Datadog for observability

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable and reliable data systems to support Forto’s innovation in the logistics space

  • Collaborate in cross-functional teams — including Software Engineering, Analytics, and Product — to deliver impactful Data Products

  • Drive the adoption of robust, high-throughput data processing architectures

  • Partner with stakeholders to foster a strong data-driven culture

  • Manage and optimize GCP infrastructure, including CI/CD workflows, Terraform, and container orchestration

  • Contribute to the evolution of our DevOps and data engineering best practices

Required Skills and Experience

  • Expert-level proficiency in Python, with strong familiarity with data processing libraries, testing strategies, and best practices

  • Strong SQL skills, especially with BigQuery, and experience across modern data platforms

  • Proven experience building and maintaining large-scale pipelines using Apache Airflow, Docker, and Kubernetes

  • Practical interest in AI/LLM engineering, such as RAG, fine-tuning, prompt engineering, or LLMOps

  • A growth mindset and a desire to continuously learn and evolve with the data engineering space

  • Experience in cross-functional environments, and comfort participating in architectural discussions, stakeholder sessions, and collaborative working models (pair/mob sessions)

  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)

  • Willingness to work in a hybrid setup with 2+ days/week in our office
