Fullstack Engineer (f/m/d) – Capacity

What if… your work empowered change in an industry that essentially impacts the prosperity of the entire world? Forto is in business to exactly do that – disrupt logistics! Simplifying global trade has been our mission from day one. Our exponentially growing team of technology and logistics experts forge ahead each day with the goal to deliver a highly transparent, frictionless and sustainable digital supply chain while chasing towards our moonshot goal of achieving climate neutral operations by 2025.

In our Engineering department we solve one of the biggest challenges of global logistics and supply chain management: reducing the industry's high complexity with a digital and sustainable approach. We architect creative solutions that drive efficiency and innovation.

Your role

The Capacity team is on a mission to provide a best in class capacity planning and allocation management system that answers the difficult question: “Which contract from our portfolio should we use to move any given shipment?” We make sure every customer gets the best terms to move their goods by efficiently utilizing our agreements with partners.

As a Fullstack Engineer (f/m/d) in the Capacity team, you will work to maintain and evolve a series of systems and components that enable us to get closer to accomplishing our mission. Those systems involve backend services that communicate with other systems via events, processing and aggregating the data in a reliable way. We also care about displaying data to our Forto colleagues in a user-friendly way in our internal systems. The majority of the work for this position is on backend and it also requires candidates willing to work on the frontend (maintaining and implementing new features).

You will

  • Process, aggregate and expose live tracking data from cargo ships, trucks, airplanes and more to infer meaningful actions on the supply chain
  • Be actively involved in a team: Building scalable and extendable event-driven microservice architectures with advanced patterns like CQRS and event sourcing design patterns and many other interesting use cases
  • Explore and implement cutting-edge software design patterns to help solve very challenging problems we are facing within an evolving domain
  • Contribute and provide inputs on how to design the best technical solutions for the product requirements in front of us
  • Be part of a cross functional team that works in an Agile environment, taking part on code reviews, user acceptance testing with stakeholders and other ceremonies
  • Collaborate with your teammates to create solutions that support our stakeholders in making critical decisions with a direct impact on profitability

What you bring

  • Proficiency in Computer Science fundamentals such as data structures, algorithm design, databases, and complexity analysis
  • Strong skills with most of the backend technologies we use: NodeJS, Javascript, Typescript,  MongoDB, NextJS, message queuing systems or Kubernetes
  • A good understanding and familiarity with frontend technologies, such as ReactJS, Jest and Cypress. We’re developing our frontend applications using MaterialUI
  • Experience working with relational and/or non-relational databases. Experience with MongoDB is a plus
  • Experience with any cloud providers is welcome
  • Experience building distributed backend applications (microservices architecture) to address complex challenges such as data consistency and quality, latency, and availability
  • Insights into designing data streaming applications with attention to special requirements such as scalability, consistency, and fault tolerance
  • Professional attitude towards software craftsmanship with a good understanding of clean code and different types of testing. Experience with pair programming and/or TDD is a huge plus;
  • An overall “can do” attitude that is not shy to help us to solve the challenges we have ahead of us
  • Working proficiency and communication skills in verbal and written English
